Job Description

The Community Action Coordinator will drive research and community engagement to achieve the deliverables of the Build Trust, Build Health Grant: to understand the root causes that have led to higher levels of obesity in Latinx youth in Greenville County.

This joint position will serve as both bridge between two community based organizations: LiveWell Greenville and Hispanic Alliance and manage a collaborative effort between multiple community partners (Bon Secours St. Francis, DHEC, PASOs/Prisma Health, and Unity Health on Main. This grant funded position (2 years, full-time equivalent) will lead, support, and facilitate partners’ efforts towards gathering information and data from Hispanic residents to identify barriers to health and wellness, and will coordinate the development of sustainable solutions to address identified community needs.


The Hispanic Alliance fosters collaboration and connectivity among people, resources and cultures to build thriving communities. LiveWell Greenville champions healthy eating and active living by convening partners to impact policies, systems and environmental changes.




   Minimum Requirement: 


  • A minimum of 5 years’ demonstrated experience in health education, social work,   community development or other related experience.

  • Near-native fluency in English and Spanish. Excellent communication and presentation skills, both oral and written, in both languages.





  •  Maintains daily contact with the public, volunteers, and partner agencies.

  • Develops and cultivates relationships with representatives from member agencies, HA and LiveWell networks, community partners, and other service providers.

  • Trains, supervises, and coordinates community volunteers.



  • Serves as a bridge between two community organizations: Hispanic Alliance and LiveWell Greenville

  • Prepares and presents reports to Build Health team monthly or as needed to ensure alignment across partner’s efforts.

  • Works closely with HA staff and Health Community Team Chair to ensure volunteer engagement in support of project goals.

  • Works in close coordination with Hispanic Alliance and LiveWell Greenville staff and interns. 




   Project Management 

  •  Set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track details/data/information/activities.

  • Develop strategies to move the research forward, set goals, create and implement actions plans, and evaluate the process and results.

  • Assess situations to determine the importance, urgency and risks, and make clear and timely decisions which are in the best interests of the organizations.

  • Understand best business practices and model ethical behavior consistent with the standards and values of the coalition. 

  • Timely reporting to management, project team, and funding organizations


   Community Engagement

  • Serves as primary point of contact for community members and agencies regarding BUILD Health Grant. 

  • Participates in and supports the implementation of HA’s Health Team initiatives.

  • Represent LW/HA in various meetings and activities relevant to the work of the organizations and research.

  • Conducts community outreach to improve community program offerings, and to increase access and participation.

  • Fostering authentic relationships and collaborations among agencies and residents (healthcare, elected officials, neighborhood residents, faith communities, etc.) 

  • Collaborate with PASOs Greenville Promotores to conduct local event to increase community trust and participation.

  • Facilitate meetings with very diverse groups

  • Identify and secure resources to meet community identified needs Data Gathering  and Reporting

  • Supports Community Action Director with the data collection of BUILD Health Grant.

  • Research best practices and identify best course of action based on community input.

  • Supports LW/HA with transcribing and translation of data. 

  • Data gathering (focus groups, interviews, etc.)

  • Identify and gather group of people to participate in research and data collection.



  • Self-motivated and action-oriented.

  • Ability to work both independently and in teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and facilitate positive relationships among diverse populations.

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Ability to quickly adapt to shifting priorities, meet multiple competing deadlines, and maintain a positive attitude under pressure.

  • Ability to understand and navigate complex systems

  • Experience in program coordination. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and e-mail management required. MacOS proficiency a plus.

  • Flexible scheduling to allow for work outside of regular business hours (8am-5pm) including evenings and weekends as needed to ensure that goals are accomplished.
