AmeriCorps, a federal agency, brings people together to tackle the country’s most pressing challenges through national service and volunteering and helps make service to others a cornerstone of our national culture. In South Carolina, AmeriCorps is administered by the South Carolina Service Commission, a division of the United Way Association of South Carolina. The mission of AmeriCorps is to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering.
Fight poverty in the Upstate South Carolina community on our team of 20 members and grow as a professional, gaining real-world experience in the nonprofit sector. Our community is growing rapidly and is recognized with many accolades, but that has not translated to improved conditions for marginalized and disconnected communities. High unemployment and poverty rates contribute to food and housing crises compounded by systems that keep people from reaching economic independence.
As economic mobility coaches, members will assess participants' individual situations, identify barriers to success, and set long-term stability goals. They will work alongside clients to overcome barriers to success through strategies such as community resource navigation and connection to support networks and social capital. The team will also support free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) clinics for 12 hours/week from Feb-Apr. Service starts with a 2-week orientation in Greenville and daily service continues at individual host organizations. Our team gathers semi-monthly for professional development, VITA training, community service projects, and social events. Full-time, 36-40 hours/week. Schedules vary slightly by placement but usually 1st shift hours (M-F 9a-5p) with some weeknight evenings & Saturday mornings during tax season.
Benefits: $19,000 total allowance paid in bi-weekly $760 installments. $6,495 education award paid upon completion and can be used for educational expenses for up to 7 years. Health coverage including dental and vision available. View our FAQs at www.americorpsupstate.org. This is a great opportunity for recent graduates, veterans, retirees, or anyone interested in a career in the nonprofit field.
We are committed to increasing the diversity of our Corps and strongly encourage qualified individuals of all backgrounds to apply.
