The Department of Agricultural Sciences (AS), within the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences (CAFLS) at Clemson University, is seeking to recruit a 9-month tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level. The position is 70% Research and 30% Teaching, with an emphasis in Agribusiness. The preferred candidate will have a strong background in econometrics specializing in Applied Agribusiness Management or Agricultural Trade or Behavioral Economics. Clemson's Agribusiness program established in 2013, has grown rapidly in eight years. The Agribusiness program consists of eight tenure-track faculty, one lecturer, and approximately 160 undergraduate students. The Agribusiness program recently re-established a Master of Science degree in Applied Economics and Statistics that has 10 students and expects to annually enroll 8-10 students.
The successful candidate will lead a nationally recognized research program, will actively seek external funding, and develop a strong refereed publication record. Research responsibilities should focus on agribusiness issues relevant to South Carolina, US Southeast Region, and the Nation. The successful candidate is expected to closely collaborate with existing AS Faculty, and faculty in different CAFLS departments and Research and Education Centers (RECs).
The selected candidate will teach two undergraduate classes (e.g. AGRB 2080 Quantitative Economics I and AGRB 3190 Agribusiness Management), develop and teach a graduate level class based on the candidate's expertise and/or department needs, and contribute to the continuous improvement of the undergraduate and graduate curricula. Additional responsibilities include advising graduate students, serving on department, college, and university academic committees, and professional committees.
Clemson University is an R1 Land Grant university located on the shores of Lake Hartwell within view of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the Upper Piedmont region of South Carolina, USA. QUALIFICATIONS
Required qualifications: A Ph.D. degree in Agricultural Economics, Economics, or closely related field with a strong focus in agribusiness is required at the time of employment. The candidate must have knowledge of policy issues confronting the agricultural economy. Excellent written and verbal communication is required.
Preferred qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with documented ability to secure external funding to support an active research program, a record of high-quality peer-reviewed journal publications, and a dedicated interest (and/or demonstrated excellence) in teaching. Experience in working as an active member in multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary research settings is also preferred.
