The EMS telecommunicator will work as a call-taker and sometimes as a dispatcher. As a call-taker, duties include receiving and processing incoming 9-1-1 calls from the public using a computerized system that prioritizes and categorizes calls. The telecommunicator will provide instructions and guidance to the caller to facilitate emergency medical care using scripted instructions and to maximize scene safety prior to the arrival of EMS. As a dispatcher, telecommunicators will identify the closest ambulance to a call and initiate the dispatch, and monitor the EMS and fire crews responding. Gathering and relaying relevant information to emergency responders is also performed. Greenville County EMS also takes calls and dispatches calls for a number of fire departments in the County. Training for all positions will be provided. at no cost to the employee.
